Celebrating ‘S’

At Credo Care Fostering, we are inspired by our young people on a daily basis and stories like S’s, highlight the amazing transformations that happen when cared for by our fabulous foster families.

S came to her foster family directly from the hospital, where she had been receiving palliative care due to severe health complications. Arriving underweight and unable to communicate, S and her foster family faced significant challenges. Yet, S radiated resilience and joy, traits that her foster family fully embraced.

In the beginning, S was a quiet little girl who expressed herself mainly through her bright smiles. The lockdowns during COVID-19, while challenging, also provided a timely and unique space for growth and bonding for S and her foster carer. Together, they navigated this unprecedented time with patience and love, allowing S to gradually adapt to her surroundings and build connections in ways that seemed unreachable months prior. Now, as S communicates in her unique way, her newfound voice is full of determination, something that resonates deeply with those who know her.

Today, S is flourishing. She has gained weight and developed the ability to express her needs and feelings more clearly. The progress she has made with her head switch has empowered her to make choices and engage with her lessons at school. Learning maths and shapes, S recently showcased her skills by scoring 5 out of 6 correct answers—a wonderful achievement that earned her recognition from the Head Teacher of her school, complete with a celebratory keyring. This achievement is a testament to her hard work and the constant support from her amazing foster family.

S has also been chosen to represent her class as a council representative. To mark this achievement, her foster carer has made a badge she can proudly wear at her school council meetings.

Credo Care Fostering could not be prouder of this young girl who continues to inspire everyone around her. S’s story reminds us all of the incredible capabilities within every young person and the wonderful difference love, care and commitment can make.
