Celebrating ‘N’

At Credo Care Fostering, we believe in and have seen firsthand the transformative power of stability and support that comes from our loving foster families and wider caring community. This is vividly illustrated through the remarkable journeys of our young people, many of whom face profound challenges on a daily basis. When we witness their incredible achievements, we feel an overwhelming need to celebrate and share their stories, as they serve as an inspiration for us all.

Take ‘N’. When he first joined his foster family at Credo Care Fostering, his foster carer described him as presenting as “quite institutionalised” due to his past experiences. Before coming to Credo Care, ‘N’ had been moved between various foster families, often finding himself in emotional turmoil when he felt that he had made a mistake, leading him to want to punish himself. The turnover of staff and constant changes in his environment only exacerbated his distress, causing this to extend over several days. However, since joining the Credo Care community and with a consistent and nurturing home environment, ‘N’ began to adjust. With one dedicated and consistent foster family, he learned to navigate those feelings and emotions. Over the course of a few weeks, ‘N’  found solace in the calmness of his new home.

While he had struggled with anger and aggression, particularly outside the home, within the safe haven of his foster family, he found calmness. It was essential for him to know that his new foster family were firmly on his side and would remain by his side in a world that had often felt unpredictable. In providing this unwavering support, his foster family played a pivotal role in helping him overcome his challenges, allowing ‘N’ to transform his anger into resilience. The change continues to be profound, showcasing the incredible impact that compassion, patience, and understanding can have on a young person’s development.

Now, ‘N’ is navigating a huge transition in his life, having taken the significant step into college. This experience is proving to be transformative for him, as he is beginning to come out of his shell and embrace future opportunities. One of the most notable changes is his newfound independence; he has taken it upon himself to organise his own lessons and choose his classes, approaching the school with confidence. This self-advocacy marks a major milestone in his journey, reflecting a growing understanding of his own needs and the importance of seeking help when necessary. Despite expressing feelings of indifference towards others at times, his actions reveal a deep-seated compassion, especially towards his fostering family.

Through these stories, we at Credo Care Fostering celebrate not just individual achievements, but the collective strength of our fostering community in helping our young people thrive.
