In a celebration marked by heartfelt exchanges and vivid testimonies, the 25th anniversary of Credo Care Fostering was given a distinguished nod of recognition by the Lord Lieutenant of Kent, Lady Colgrain. Her visit to the pioneering agency’s head office in Lydd on Friday 22nd November 2024 was not merely ceremonial but a significant acknowledgment of the indispensable services provided by the UK’s first disability specialist fostering agency. A convergence of directors, staff, foster carers, and young people gathered to share their stories and achievements.
Lady Colgrain, known for her deep-rooted commitment to social causes, spent her time engaging with many members of the Credo Care community. Directors of Credo Care Fostering, who proudly hosted the visit, facilitated introductions and presentations, illustrating the agency’s pivotal role in the disability fostering sector.
The presentations offered a deep insight into Credo Care Fostering’s remarkable history and ongoing journey. Established as the UK’s first disability specialist fostering agency, Credo Care Fostering has carved a niche in providing home-based palliative care, setting benchmarks for compassion and quality. The journey of a child within Credo Care Fostering was laid out in vivid detail, showcasing the nuanced and tailored support that underpins the agency’s efforts. Significant emphasis was placed on the initiatives run at Credo Care Fostering, such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award. These initiatives are designed not only to provide support but also to empower young people with the skills and confidence needed to thrive despite their challenges.
One of the visit’s highlights was an intimate exhibit of artwork created by some of the young people at Credo Care Fostering. Lady Colgrain, expressed profound admiration for the talent on display. As a touching gesture, she was gifted her favourite painting from the collection.
Dr Damien Mead, Credo’s Chairman responding to the visit, said “We are extremely grateful to the Lord Lieutenant for her visit marking our 25th year. This external recognition of the hard work, commitment and dedication of our foster carers and staff is greatly appreciated, and it was wonderful to be able share with The Lady Colgrain some of the many success stories we have had, and explain the vision which inspired the foundation of the agency and continues to motivate and underpin our achievements.”
As the visit concluded, it was evident that Credo Care Fostering’s impact extends far beyond the immediate needs of the children they support. Their pioneering work in disability fostering and palliative care continues to inspire and shape the broader landscape of social care in the UK.
In the end, what stood out most about Lady Colgrain’s visit was the palpable sense of community and resilience that defines Credo Care Fostering. This agency, formed out of a need to address a significant gap in the fostering system, has grown into a beacon of hope and a testament to the power of specialised care.
What truly sets Credo Care Fostering apart is not just their innovative approach or their long list of accolades. It’s the stories of transformation and the unwavering support system that stands behind every foster carer and child. As they celebrate this significant milestone, Credo Care Fostering reminds us all that with dedication, commitment and empathy, we can improve the lives of children with additional needs and disabilities — one child at a time.
